Food
Burnaby Neighbourhood House, North House – community kitchens at Gilmore Community School from Sept-June.

Quest Food Exchange – access to a variety of affordable and healthy food. Referral from our office (or any non-profit organization, government office, health practitioner, school, or church) is required.

Burnaby Meals on Wheels – nutritious, local and affordable food for people who are unable to meet their dietary needs for physical, mental, social, or economic reasons.

Addiction Support Services
Alcohol and Drug information and referral from BC211 – addiction support workers provide 24-hour information and referral.

Burnaby Substance Use Services – free confidential counselling for anyone concerned about their own or someone else’s alcohol and drug use.

Charlford House Society for Women – supportive recovery home for women ready to move on from their substance addiction.

Health
Health Insurance BC – information on MSP, Pharmacare and Fair Pharmacare.

Fraser Health Lifeline – 24-hour emergency response service that assists individuals to remain independent and safe in their homes.

Burnaby Hospice Society – provides services in Burnaby to individuals and families requiring end-of-life services.

Counselling and Mental Health
Burnaby Counselling Group – confidential counselling services for individuals, couples, children, and families. Subsidies may be available to persons with low income.

Burnaby Family Life Institute – individual counselling services for women who experience trauma due to abuse and violence, as well as group counselling for women who have a history of sexual child abuse. Programs also available for children ages 3-19 who witness abuse.

Purpose Society Family Service – several programs offered to families with referral from the Ministry of Children and Family Development.

Victim Services
Police Victim Services Units – information, emotional support, and practical help for persons or families affected by crime or trauma.

Housing
Dixon Transition Society – temporary shelter, housing, and support for women and their children directly fleeing abuse.

Progressive Housing Society – homeless outreach program. A mobile unit brings supplies and services to the homeless Tuesdays and Thursdays in various Burnaby locations.

Employment and Financial Assistance
WorkBC Employment Services – services, programs, and support for people looking for work.

Job Bank – Government of Canada online source for jobs and labour market information.

ISS of BC – provides immigrants, live-in caregivers, and refugee newcomers with guidance and support on employment issues and information about BC’s job market.

MOSAIC Employment Services – Career Paths Program helps newcomers find jobs to suit pre-arrival qualifications and gain work experience in Canada.

Advocacy and Legal Service
Parents Legal Centre – Has a social worker contacted you about your children? You have the right to legal advice. Also available through Aboriginal Legal Aid.

Society to End Homelessness in Burnaby – support services to persons who are homeless or at risk of homelessness.

Multicultural Family Support Services Society – provides culturally and linguistically sensitive services in more than twenty languages to immigrants, refugees, no-status, and other visible minority women and their families who are experiencing family violence.

MOSAIC Legal Advocacy Program – provides information on immigration and poverty law, summary advice referrals and representation to low-income immigrants and refugees.

Access Pro Bono Society – provides access to free legal services for people and non-profit organizations of limited means.

Aboriginal Legal Aid in BC – legal information and advice services for Aboriginal peoples.

BC Human Rights Clinic – advocacy and education on human rights.

Families
BC Healthy Kids Program – helps low-income families with the cost of basic dental care and prescription eyewear for children under 18.

YMCA Child Care Resources and Referral – provides parents with child care information and referral and Child Care Subsidy assistance.

Burnaby Community Services – provides several publications of interest to families. Free copies can be picked up at local libraries, community centres, and government agencies.

Pacific Post Partum Support Society – offers free phone support to women (and their families) who are experiencing any kind of distress. Also supports women who are pregnant and experiencing distress.

Burnaby Family Life Institute – provides pre/post-natal support, family life and parenting education, child care and children’s programs, life skills and women’s support groups.

Cameray Child and Family Services Parent Support Program – free daily interactive and educational parenting groups and one-on-one parent support sessions.

Family Services for Greater Vancouver – counselling, education, and support services for parents and families.

MOSAIC Family Centre – early childhood development (ECD) program for Burnaby refugee families.

Parent Support Services Society of BC – parenting workshops and weekly free anonymous parent support circles for parents or grandparents raising children.

Seniors
BC Bus Pass Program – for low-income seniors and Persons Living with a Disability.

Seniors BC/Seniors Info Line – single source for government services information.

Burnaby Seniors Outreach Services Society – support services for seniors and unpaid caregivers.

Citizen Support Services – contains information about programs, benefits, agencies, and services available to Burnaby seniors.

Welcoming Seniors’ Spaces – trained volunteers reach out to seniors experiencing social isolation and connect them to inclusive community spaces in various neighborhoods.

Burnaby Neighbourhood House Seniors Together Program – welcomes seniors from diverse cultural backgrounds, skills, and abilities and supports their health and well-being. Seniors lead educational workshops and social activities.

MOSAIC Seniors Programs for Immigrant and Refugee Seniors – free, multi-lingual services to newcomer seniors aged 55+ including settlement counselling, English conversation circles, computer classes, activity workshops and informational field trips.

Better at Home Programs – helps seniors live independently in their own homes by providing simple, non-medical support services (e.g. light housekeeping, transportation to medical appointments) delivered by local non-profit agencies.

Burnaby Seniors Transportation – provides Burnaby seniors with transportation to their medical and dental-related appointments.

Youth
Go Volunteer – online database to connect volunteers to non-profit organizations.

Burnaby Youth Substance Use Outreach Services – free, confidential counselling and outreach services for youth ages 12 years and older who are experiencing difficulties with alcohol and/or other drugs. Referrals to other resources and programs are available.

Persons with Disabilities
Disability Alliance BC – assists people with disabilities in accessing benefits and services.

BC Bus Pass Program – for low-income seniors and Persons Living with a Disability.

BACI – Burnaby Association for Community Inclusion – programs and services for infants, children, youth, and adults with developmental disabilities (as well as their families) .

BC Centre for Ability – community-based services for children, youth, adults, and their families with neurological, physical, and developmental disabilities.
