Weekly Update – July 16th

I’m pleased to share with you some important announcements made by our government this past week.

B.C. acting to improve ambulance response times, support emergency workers

We’re strengthening B.C.’s ambulance system to ensure it’s faster and more responsive to British Columbians, a better place to work for paramedics and dispatchers, and able to rapidly meet changing demands and needs through focused and direct leadership.

B.C. introduces new prescribed safer supply policy, a Canadian first

We’re announcing a new expanded policy for prescribed safer supply in B.C. – to separate more people from the poisoned, illicit drug supply and connect them to ongoing health care and support.

There is more to do, and we won’t stop working until we turn this crisis around.

New public transit investment to create jobs, grow the economy, and build back stronger communities in British Columbia

We are committed to getting the Surrey Langley Skytrain extension done so people are spending less time in traffic and more time doing what they love.

This project will help take cars off the road, advancing our CleanBC goals, and support local economies as we recover from the pandemic.

Increasing housing flexibility in the ALR

We recognize the unique needs of established farming families, those new to farming and those living in the ALR who don’t farm, which is why it is so important to us to put flexible opportunities in place for secondary housing on this land.

Province acquires land to expand seven parks, one protected area

Our government is committed to expanding and improving the parks and outdoor spaces that we all share and rely on.

That’s why we acquired more land that’s intended to be added to seven provincial parks and one protected area.

Expanded low – and no-cost community counselling, virtual services coming

We’re investing $2.4 million to ensure recently expanded community counselling services have continued funding until March 2022.

Cocktails-to-go are in the mix for restaurants, pubs

B.C. will let food – and liquor-primary licensees package and sell single-serving, pre-mixed drinks for takeout with the purchase of a meal.
